This area is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
History Trail
Kelling Heath is steeped in history, with intriguing clues all around that tell the story of how the landscape has been shaped, both by natural processes and human endeavors. Along this trail, you’ll find several stops where you can engage with the landscape and learn about the wildlife, as well as the special connections between humans, plants, animals, and their surroundings. This trail spans just under 2 ½ miles (4km) and should take about 1 1/2 hours to complete, starting and finishing in the Village Square.
Anniversary Trail
In 2009, Kelling Heath celebrated its 25th anniversary under the ownership of the Timewell Family. During this time, significant effort and resources have been dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience at the park and ensuring the preservation of this unique natural environment for future generations to enjoy.
Launched in mid-May 2009, the Anniversary Trail is a circular route that explores the natural and built environments at Kelling Heath. It provides insights into the impact of interventions made over the past 25 years. Guests can follow the 2-mile route, marked by pink way markers and directions in a self-guided leaflet. The interpretation along the trail offers valuable information and should take about two hours to complete.
Tree Trail
Launched in 2010, the Tree Trail is a delightful exploration of 25 different species of trees along a circular route at Kelling Heath. A self-guide leaflet assists you in discovering these trees, with each tree representing a year of ownership by the Timewell family. The trail features a mix of existing and newly planted trees, making it a testament to the park’s 25-year journey.
Easy Access Trail
The Easy Access Trail starts just beyond the village square at the sculpture and is marked by a distinctive red way marker. This pleasant circular route covers ¾ km of level, natural terrain, passing through an area of rare lowland heathland habitat. This habitat supports rare species such as the Silver-Studded Blue Butterfly, which was successfully reintroduced onto the heath through a collaborative effort with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Butterfly Conservation, and Natural England in 2004.
